Но так сложилось что квартира обросла некоторым количеством систем, которые можно отнести к цифровому дому.

Рабочий компьютер быв всегда ;), но так как используется виндоувз и он имел подключение к инету, решил добавить девайс который бы выполнял функции файрвола. Можно было взять какой-либо свич с таким набором функций, но я отдал предпочтение более гибкому и дешевому решению. Так была протянута витая пара по комнатам(на всякий случай да и ремонт как раз проводился) и появилась машина в качестве сервера (Celeron 500MHz, 64Mb, HDD 80Gb, безкорпусный вариант в кладовке) под управлением FreeBSD 6.1 с ipfw, на ней же реализован факс-сервер HylaFAX.

Дальше у жены сменилась работа и ей понадобился инет для он-лайновых отчетов — в доме появился ноутбук. Подключать его по витой паре к сети было неудобно, поэтому решил сделать все через радио, так добавилась точка доступа Wi-Fi.

Тем временем на сервере накопилось немного музыки, валялись некоторые фильмы, архив фоток. Уже ощущалась нехватка места и все это “добро” периодически скидывалось частями на болванки CD или DVD. Но потом искать нужный диск достаточно неудобно. В добавок к этому на рабочем компьютере имелся достаточно большой архив рабочих файлов, которые тоже не мешало бы хранить где-то в более надежном месте. Так как условный мегабайт жесткого диска сейчас уже достаточно дешевый (и будет дешеветь) решено было добавить на сервер рейд из дисков, но пока временно был просто добавлен диск в 250Gb.

Через некоторое время понадобился апгрейд моего рабочего компьютера, решение было простым - старый отдан детям, и куплен новый. Вот уже в доме сеть из 4 компьютеров. Детвора в основном гоняла игрушки, инет и пользовались запасами сервера по музыке и фильмам. Было одно неудобство смотреть фильмы на мониторе, а вывести изображение на телевизор не позволяло расположение компьютера в комнате. Идея раздавать мультимедиа контент по дому возникла когда я увидел плеер D-Link DSM-320. Я решил попробовать сделать нечто подобное на базе компьютера. Готовое решение было найдено в инете, это французкий проект GeexBox. Плеер был собран из железа которое валялось дома (Pentium III 400MHz, 64Mb, HDD 2,5 Gb, Video ATI Radeon, SoundCard). Здесь можно посмотреть как он выглядит. На сервере был установлен пакет uShare, все заработало без каких-либо проблем.
